Rhett E. Murray

Rhett E. Murray was born in 1968 in Springville, Utah. He spent most of his early life like other children, but at an early age Rhett showed a skill in drawing, filling countless hours and sketchbooks with an imaginary world. He graduated from Springville High in 1986. Then graduated from Snow College. Following a two year religious mission in Osorno Chile for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints he graduated from Southern Utah University with a B.A. in art and education. Rhett married Holly Atkinson of Henderson, Nevada. They moved to Anchorage, Alaska to teach high school. Rhett returned to SUU in the summers to finish a Master's degree in fine arts and education. After working six year in Alaska Rhett felt the need to return to creating his own art again. They moved to Poulsbo, Washington, and took an accelerated visual arts program at Northwest College of Art. After graduating Rhett worked for Spring Creek Book Publishing and moved to Henderson where Rhett works for CCSD. He has taught at Schofield Middle School for 2002 - 2015, Basic Academy of International Studies 2016 - present in Henderson, NV, and at Nevada State College where he teaches Art. 

Rhett continue studying the great artists from the past to gain strength in his work, such as the portraits and illustrations of Frederick Carl Frieseke, John Singer Sargent and John Waterhouse. He admires the problem solving illustrators such as Maxfield Parrish and Howard Pyle. Rhett continues to grow not only as a fine portrait artist but as an illustrator as well. Find more information
